MOOT COURT PROFILE
- 2013 – Ms. Mercy Muendo took charge as the Moot Court Co-ordinator. The same year in the month of May, Mount Kenya School of Law was privileged to host, for the first time in Kenya, the prestigious Manfred Lachs Moot Court Competition. The School was represented by Allan Wachira, Jack Brian Ong’anya and Eveline Kogi. This team was prepared by Ms Mercy Muendo – the Coordinator. In this competition, Jack Brian Ong’anya was awarded the Best Oralist in the Competition.
- In October 2013, Ms Muendo again took a team to the 3rd Regional Children’s Right Moot Court Competition, held at Kabarak University. The team representing the School comprised of Charles Waweru, Ben Mwangi and Sarah Mwaura.
- 2014 – August the School took part in the 23rd All African Moot Court Competitions under the guidance of Ms Mercy Muendo, which was hosted by the University of Nairobi, in collaboration with the University of Pretoria in South Africa. The school emerged position 7 out of 62 schools
- In October the same year (2014) Ms Muendo yet again prepared a team that represented the School in the 4th Regional Children Rights Moot Court Competition which was hosted by Strathmore Law School. The team comprising of Duncan Ombo Malumbe and Abednego Kavita won the Best Respondent Memorial.
- 2015 – The School registered for the 3rd All Kenyan Moot Court Competition which was held at Kenyatta University in the Month of February. Through Ms Muendo’s guidance, the School emerged the 4th best overall out of a total of 10 law schools. The school was represented by Jacky Akello, Aquino Ochieng, Janice Wachuka and Dennis Wachira, while Aoko Otieno and Methuselah Kering presented Research Papers during the event. During the Competitions, Aquino Ochieng was crowned the Best Male Oralist and earned Internship at the Kenya Commission for Human Rights.
- Moot Court has also been working very closely with the Mount Kenya University Chapter of the Kenya Model United Nations (K-MUN) and hence have hosted some events jointly. This collaboration has seen the school take part in all the ICJ Moot Court Competitions which have been done annually at the UN Head Quarters in Gigiri as from 2014. Mr. Peter Maina became a Chapter ambassador for Nairobi Chapter.
- The school participated in the Malfred Lachs Mootcourt Competition in May 2015 represented by Duncan Malumbe and Kipsang under the guidance of Ms. Mercy Muendo and emerged position 3 in Africa.
- The school participated in the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights international Moot Court Competition held in Geneva December 2015. Represented by Mr. Abdirahman Hassan and Ms. Aoko Agola under the guidance of Ms. Mercy Muendo . It emerged position 6 in the world and 2 in Africa.
